Nocturnes
Nocturnes is the series of artworks by young artist
Ioana Ursa .
The project started from a series of works which center around the act of sleeping. Sleep is seen as both resignation and
escape. Ioana is floating slowly
from sleep to death and dream, oneiric and than
night. “Nocturnes” talks about the bizarre relationship space-time.
The feeling of bizarreness is the one that embraces
you while repeating, or attempting presently
something from past; capturing the thrill of deja-vu.
The works have a mystic and romantic atmosphere
with some weakness for the concepts correlated to the
symbols, mutation, deconstruction and retraining.
Not being gratuitous, the artist doesn't want to
sprinkle them intended in her works. They are part of
her visual and emotional patrimony, part of her spirit
and life. These symbols were stored in the sensible
periods of childhood and adolescence. Ioana
enjoys looking at the world through the images that
made an impression on her soul and her memory.
Considering the imposed reality as being insipid in
other way.
The compositions elements contain motives that
keep repeating naturally (water, flight, smoke,
porcelain, garden).
She describes herself:
“I'm trying to code my opinions and my interior
feelings; I'm sure there are people capable of
understanding them. I can say for sure that black,
white, red and all the tones related to them have a
word to say in my works. Probably the mysticism
came to me from the preference for the dark weather
before the storm, from my religious family or from
the stories that were spread in the village about
witches and curses.”
